Build Arena Challenge Rules
Last updated 29 October 2026
These general rules apply to every challenge. Each challenge also publishes its own brief, dates, rubric, judges and award details before entries open.
Entry
- Entry is free. There are no entry fees, paid votes or participant-funded prize pools.
- Eligibility (for example, membership status, age 18+, location restrictions required by law) is stated in each challenge brief.
- Teams must list all members. Each person may be on one team per challenge.
Your submission
- You must have the rights to everything you submit. Open-source components must be used under their licences and disclosed.
- You keep ownership of your work. You allow KAIOS to display your submission for judging and, if you consent, publicly.
- Submissions are frozen at the deadline. Late changes aren't considered.
Judging
- Entries are scored against the published rubric. The rubric doesn't change after entries open.
- An AI review report may summarise each entry and flag missing evidence. It is advisory; human judges make all decisions.
- At least two independent judges score each eligible entry where feasible and must declare conflicts of interest.
- Ties are resolved by a third reviewer using the same rubric, as published in the brief.
- Plagiarism, fabricated evidence or manipulated votes lead to disqualification.
Awards and funding
- We announce a cash award only after a sponsor has funded it. Otherwise recognition is non-cash.
- Winners must complete eligibility and identity checks required to receive an award. Applicable taxes (including TDS where required) are deducted as the law requires.
- If a sponsor withdraws before funding, we'll say so openly and won't present an unfunded award as secured.
Results and appeals
Provisional results are published first, followed by an appeal window stated in the brief. Appeals are reviewed by someone not solely responsible for the original decision. People's Choice voting, if offered, is separate from judged awards, limited to one vote per eligible member, and self-voting isn't allowed.
